Residents of Strathbogie Shire Council’s Hughes Creek Ward who have recently turned 18 or have moved house should enrol or update their enrolment for the September by-election, according to the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC).
The by-election is being held following the resignation of Councillor Robin Steers from Council, and will be conducted entirely by post.
“Those already on the roll for their correct address will automatically receive ballot packs to vote in the by-election,” said Electoral Commissioner Steve Tully.
“But those who need to enrol or update their enrolment details will need to complete an enrolment form and return it to the VEC before 4.00pm on Friday, 24 July.”
Enrolment forms are available at any post office, Centrelink, Australian Electoral Commission office or Coles supermarket, or can be downloaded from www.vec.vic.gov.au
There are also special enrolment categories for occupiers and non-Australian citizens who pay rates, company nominees, and for people who occupy a property and have written permission from the owner to vote in their place. For further details, contact Strathbogie Shire Council on 5795 0000.
Voting is compulsory for all enrolled Australian citizens under 70 years of age who live in the ward. This includes both property owners and tenants.
For more information on enrolment, or to check the State voters roll, people can phone the VEC on 13 18 32, or visit www.vec.vic.gov.au
People can also check their enrolment details during business hours from Monday, 20 July to Friday, 24 July at the following locations:
